Zion National Park:
Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort welcomes you to Zion National Park, one of the gems of the national park system and one of
Utah's most beloved tourist destinations. Anciently, the Zion National Park area was inhabited by the Anasazi and later
the Paiute Native American Tribes. The first white settlers to the area were Mormon pioneers, they gave the canyons and
formations different bible names. Zion itself is an ancient Hebrew word that stands for place of peace and refuge. As
you visit the immense canyons, beautifully sculptured rock formations, soaring cliffs and breathtaking landscapes you
will agree that Zion National Park certainly lives up to its name. Zion is located in the far southwestern corner of
Utah a short two hour drive northeast from Las Vegas, or a four and a half hour drive south from Salt Lake City. The
beauties of Zion National Park's canyons attract almost three million visitors each year.
Zion is well known for its incredible rock formations and is home to Kolob Arch, which is the largest arch in the
world spanning 310 ft. Zion is also famous for its deep slot canyons. One of these canyons, The Narrows, attracts hikers
from all around the world. Zion provides endless opportunities for enjoying and exploring nature. If you are visiting
Zion National Park for the first time, be sure to give yourself at least three to five days to explore all that the area
has to offer. For starters, you will find that a drive through the park can be absolutely breathtaking. In Zion Canyon,
the rock walls tower 2,000 to 3,000 feet (620-930 m) above your car. Other options within the park include the visitor
centers at both Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon and you won't want to miss out on the several hikes and lookout points.
Mountain biking is not allowed within the boundaries of the park, however there are several miles of beautiful mountain
biking trails surrounding Zion National Park that allow great vistas into the park.
