Zion National Park:
Zion National Park is one of the greatest attractions of the USA national park system and one of
Utah's most coveted tourist destinations.
Anciently, the Zion National Park area was inhabited by the Anasazi and later
the Paiute Native American Tribes. The first white settlers to the area were Mormon pioneers who gave the
formations in Zion National Park various biblical names. Zion is an ancient Hebrew word that stands for place of peace and refuge. As
you visit the immense canyons, beautifully sculptured rock formations, soaring cliffs and breathtaking landscapes you
will agree that Zion National Park certainly lives up to its name. Zion is located in the southwest corner of
Utah a short 2.5 hour drive northeast of Las Vegas, or a four hour drive south from Salt Lake City. The
beauties of Zion National Park's canyons attract approximately 2.7 million visitors each year.
Zion is well known for its dramatic rock formations and is the location of Kolob Arch, which is one of the two largest arches in the
world, spanning 310 ft. Zion is also famous for its deep slot canyons and The Narrows section of the park attracts hikers
from all around the world. Zion provides endless opportunities for enjoying and exploring nature. If you are visiting
Zion National Park for the first time, be sure to give yourself at least three to five days to explore all that the area
has to offer. For starters, you will find that a drive through the park can be absolutely breathtaking. In Zion Canyon,
the rock walls tower 2,000 to 3,000 feet (620-930 m) above your car. Other options within the park include the visitor
centers at both Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon and you won't want to miss out on the several hikes and lookout points.
Single track mountain biking is not allowed within the boundaries of the park, however there are hundreds of miles of beautiful mountain
biking trails surrounding Zion National Park.
